Melody Chang

Raised in Little Rock, Arkansas, Melody is the daughter of Taiwanese immigrants. She studied social and cultural anthropology at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. She has worked in direct service, advocacy, local government, and social sector consulting on behalf of reforming the Orleans Parish criminal justice system - in particular, reducing pre-trial detention rates and the use of money bail. She completed a master's degree in City & Regional Planning at the University of California, Berkeley in 2021 and returned to New Orleans. Melody is a systems thinker, passionate about promoting mutual investment between residents and institutions by improving public spaces, public communications, and public services. In her free time, she makes giant puppets and explores techniques for making affective, immersive, and participatory experiences about place. She also loves her dog, Popeye.
